The Bodie Fire Station is in the foreground. The Mineworks and Mill is in the background.

The mines are "off limits" to the public, in this State Park, as many are still capable of being worked. The Mill Works' stamp mills are still intact, and preserved.

Tours are available at the, year 'round Ranger's Station in the Park.

A look at one of the mine owner's homes.

Some of the residents just walked away, without taking anything bigger than they could carry. Furnishings and utensils remain in many of the homes.

Some say, the debtors sneaked away at night, as they couldn't ever pay off their debts.

The Great Depression was hard on Bodie, and the mines' production was not bringing in much revenue.

Hard? It was the end of Bodie.

The General Store and the Bodie Hotel (left to right), on Main Street.

The General Store is, now, a museum, with many of the artifacts, on display that were left behind, as the town was abandoned.

The Bodie Garage,

There are, still, waist-high tanks of motor oil, with pumps atop, in the storage room. The town's auto garage still has its 1900's vintage gas pumps in front.

The Bodie Community Church.

The least weathered of any of Bodie's structures. God knows, why.

Park Ranger's Residence is occupied all year.
Park Rangers live here, even when, ten foot snows make it impossible to get to Lee Vining, the closest town, to the south. The Northern entrance, to Bodie, off Hiway 395, is just south of Walker River.
