Tom
John Joseph
Guerin
John Joseph Guerin was born in Los Angeles to Joseph Paul Guerin
and Margaret Electa Guerin. He passed away May 20, 2003. He attended Mount
Carmel Catholic High School in Los Angeles from 1940 to 1944. He lettered in
football and boxing and was voted Student Body President. He was given the
American Legion medal for most outstanding student upon graduating. Following
high school, John was drafted into the U.S. Navy in the V-12 program (officers'
training) in June, 1946, and was sent to the University of Colorado. John also
joined the U.S. Army (1950) and the Air Force (1965) and was honorably
discharged from all three branches.
As WWII ended, John
returned to Los Angeles and attended Loyola University Law School, being the
second generation to attend. His father has attended Loyola and was an
attorney. John met and married Nadine Guerin. They have ten children; Alfred,
Teresa, Yvonne, Edward, Arthur, Nina, Jojo, Michael, Thomas and Regis. They
moved to Huntington Beach in 1965 where he established private practice on
Pacific Coast Highway just past the main pier. To date, John has been
successful in winning a great number of cases. He has been published in the
California Appellate Reports, changing the law 46 times. John celebrated his
50th year of active law practice in June of 1999 where he received a "John
Guerin Day Proclamation from Peter Green, the mayor of Huntington Beach.
John worked seven days a
week up until the time of his passing. In addition to John Guerin's
professional accomplishments, most would say that John was most successful in
his personal life. He touched everyone he met and maintained huge network of
friends. He was very faithful to God and the Catholic Church, first and
foremost. He lived his life with respect and dignity, always caring for others
before himself. He never needed nor wanted material things. He only wanted the
closeness of friends, the love of family. He loved to gather, he loved to
feast, he loved good red wine.He loved reciting poetry, singing, sports, music,
dancing and the ocean.
Most of all, he loved his
wife, sons and daughters and his twelve grandchildren. He was a true
inspiration. John was a constant source of love and positive energy and always
welcomed everyone into his heart. He will be forever missed. Services for John
Guerin will be held : Vigil/Rosary Services Friday, May 23, 2003 4:00-8:00p.m.
